Design of Radial Magnetic Coupling as Test Bench for Electric Machines

摘要 Performance measurement is essential in the development of electric motors. Dynamometers are a common device for measuring the torque-speed characteristics of electric motors; however, it is time-consuming to measure large motors using dynamometers due to the difficulty in mechanical coupling alignment. This paper proposes a contactless test bench using a speed-adjustable radial magnetic coupling (RMC), which can effectively reduce noise and vibration and mitigate the alignment difficulty. The torque of the RMC is transmitted by eddy-current and controlled by the overlapping length between the PM ring and conductive ring. The RMC is verified to be accurate and reproducible equipment by measuring a 1.5 kW DC brush motor at different voltages.
